February is considered the love month because of Valentine’s Day. Magazines, television, and radio advertisements do their best to portray and capitalize on love stories.
Let me tell you a love story.
For more than 33 years, I was married to the love of my life, my best friend, and my Man of God. I have experienced the depths of a romantic love between a husband and wife. There was nothing that he would not do for me and I for him. He was my priest, protector, provider, and my pastor. I became to him chief nurse, cook, chauffeur, confidant, cheerleader, and company keeper.
He made it known to everyone that I was his lovely, beautiful wife and I expressed my commitment and dedication to him. Our relationship spanned more than 40 years and was not without challenges. But we had a mutual love and respect for each other and most of all, we both loved God more than we loved each other.
Many desire a love story but only a few dare to deny themselves and make the necessary sacrifices to esteem the other higher than themselves.
Our love story was par excellence, but let me tell you about the greatest love story. There is not nor ever will be another one that can rival it.
God created us for His pleasure and He loved us so very much. Before the foundation of the earth was laid, He knew that we would mess up His good plan for us. So, He already had a plan of redemption in place to buy back our freedom. He sacrificed His son, Jesus, to die for the sins of the whole world. Now that is love. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:7-8
God’s love for us is so deep but we have to make the choice to love Him and choose Jesus as our Savior and Lord. When we do, eternal life is secured for us and abundant life on earth is for our choosing. This abundant life provides joy and not sadness, happiness and not grief, faith and not fear, and blessings, not curses. Our Father desires us to know, the breadth, length, depth, and height of Jesus’ love for us, to know Him in all His fullness, and the power of His resurrection.
Now my love story with my Man of God has ended in this realm of living but my love story with my Father God will live throughout eternity. I love God because He first loved me. His love for me has transformed me beyond my wildest dreams. He is waiting to do the same for you.
