Several months ago, I was prompted to write about transformation. I immediately thought about the change of a caterpillar to a butterfly. Because I am on assignment from God to write, He provides the subjects to write, the words to write, the pictures to accompany the words and when to write them. When transformation kept coming to mind, I inquired of the Lord about a picture of a caterpillar. I do not think I had ever seen a caterpillar. But just a few mornings later, May 1, while working in the flower bed, a worm, or so I thought, had attached to my glove. I repeatedly tried to pull it off but it would not budge. After a few failed attempts, I started to think supernaturally. I took off the gloves, transferred the worm to my iPad and took a picture. I thought, could this be a caterpillar? I looked on the internet and low and behold, God had provided a real live caterpillar for me. Look at God!
The caterpillar appeared dead so I put it on the porch and proceeded to put up my equipment. After a couple of minutes, I looked back, it was gone, nowhere to be found. I knew when the timing was right, God would reveal the butterfly for this story. So, guess what? On Monday, July 24, in the same area on the back porch, I photographed this butterfly. Now the pictures are not as vibrant or as beautiful as I would want them, but neither are caterpillars or the transformation process. I am following the instructions to write. I do not know who this is for, but I know they have a word from the Lord through me today.
Now for a quick science lesson on a butterfly’s four stages of life. Metamorphosis is the process of transformation of the butterfly from egg, caterpillar, pupa to adult. Eggs are laid on a plant leaf. After hatching, they become a caterpillar where they spend most of their time eating the leaves for growth. As they grow larger, they become too large for their skin and it sheds or molts. This continues as they repeat the cycle of eating, growing, and molting. At the pupa stage, they produce a protective covering and appear to be resting. There is rapid change and transformation going on even though none is seen. All the parts of the butterfly are forming in the covering. When complete, the adult butterfly emerges with its primary purpose to reproduce and lay eggs for the next generation of butterflies.
In the scripture above, Paul is encouraging and impressing believers to show up, to present yourself to God as a living sacrifice. This is the least that you should to do. Life is like a race, not a sprint but a marathon. You are in it for the long haul and therefore a daily commitment, a daily sacrifice is required to complete this life’s journey. Every morning, you should wake up and go down at night with the pledge to stay in the race and run it with patience.
How do we stay in the race? Do not conform to this world. Do not imitate, do not follow, do not adapt to the things of this world or the people of this world. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. This word transformed comes from the Greek word meaning metamorphosis. Allow your mind to be altered, be changed by the power of the Word of God. Saturate and soak yourself in the Word and the things of God. Then you will prove, validate, and make known what God’s will is for your life. You will metamorphosize from a baby Christian drinking the milk of the Word to a full-grown Christian eating the strong meat of the Word. As you grow, you become spiritually too large for your natural self, shedding the skin, the cares of this natural life. More of the Word is required for your increased appetite. You are not just transferred, moved from one place to another, you are transformed. Even though you or others do not see the change going on, it is happening. God covers you with His love and provides all you need for life and godliness through the Word. You evolve into the beautiful butterfly that you were created to be. You are empowered by His Spirit to go into the world and make disciples of men, to replicate the process completed in you.
God loves you and desires all the best life has. While on assignment, He will do what is necessary for you to excel. He will provide the super for your natural to create the supernatural if you will believe it, expect it, and receive it.
