The Resurrection is an exciting and very familiar season for the believer. It is foundational to our faith and people throughout the world know the story of my crucified and risen Savior. The stage had been set and the story quickly unfolded. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey. The people have cried Hosanna and wanted to crown Him king. Mind you, the people, in less than a week said crucify Him.
There were a few parties contributing to this treachery. Judas betrayed, Peter denied, the disciples fled and forsook, the Sanhedrin judged and sentenced, the soldiers beat and crucified, Pilate wimped out, the disciples slept, and the masses turned on Him. This was done in the span of a few days. All to fulfill the scriptures. Done for me, done for you. God had a plan. A plan of redemption.
When Jesus said It is finished, it meant the sin debt was paid in full and the law was fulfilled. We do not owe anything and what condemned us is no longer valid. As a sign of this finished work, the veil of the temple was torn from the top to the bottom, signifying that we can go to God for ourselves. There is no longer a division, and no longer do we need a priest to go to God for us.
A deal is an agreement, understanding, pact, a covenant made between two or more parties for the benefit of all. Done deal is an irreversible, unchangeable, unalterable contract, arrangement, promise, or plan. A done deal is a deal that is done. It is finished, it is final, it is complete.
How could this be finished? How could this be a done deal? He was betrayed, beaten, spit on, mocked, and ridiculed and He never said a mumbling word in His defense. What is done about this deal? It looked like He had lost, it looked like it was over. It looked like He was through booking. But it was a done deal. The great betrayal had become the great set up. What the enemy had plotted and planned for a short time, during this season, God had set a plan in motion, before the foundation of the world. The plan of redemption was hidden from the forces of darkness, but it was revealed by the Spirit throughout the ages to the people of God. The demonic entourage thought they had Him. If they knew, they would not have killed the Lord of Glory. The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. I Corinthians 1:18 NLT
What appeared to be a humiliating, shameful, agonizing, painful, and inhumane death on a cross resulted in a way of escape for mankind. He was lifted to lift us. He was raised to raise us. He was wounded for our wrongdoings. He was crushed for our crimes. He was punished for our peace. His wounds make us whole.
The grave could not keep Him. Death could not hold Him. It is finished, it is done.
